Director of Facilities, IMRI
Zheng directs operations of Irvine Materials Research Institute (IMRI) facilities which include the laboratory for electron and x-ray instrumentation, the JEOL center for Nanoscale solutions, and Material Characterization Center. Zheng supervises the user-training program, instrument maintenance and lab personnel, and collaborates with internal and outside researchers.
His expertise is in advanced electron microscopy, materials characterization and materials physics. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers in prestigious journals including Science, Nano letters, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Applied Physics Letter, Physics Review B, and Chemistry of Materials, and given numerous talks in international conferences. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Microscopic Society (UK) and an adjunct professor in physics at Nanjing University (China).
Prior to joining UCI, Zheng was a research assistant professor in materials science and engineering and manager of electron probe instrumentation center at Northwestern University and had previously been a post-doc researcher under supervision of Prof. John Steeds at University of Bristol, UK, a senior experimental officer in electron microscopy at the University of Liverpool, UK, and an associate professor in physics at Nanjing University, China.
