Newsroom: Overview

Breaking News, Making News

A semiannual magazine, press releases, website articles and event publicity are among the many ways the Calit2 communications team informs the Institute's diverse audience. The team is always looking for research story ideas involving Calit2 affiliates and encourages researchers to keep them informed of their projects.

Media are welcome at all Calit2 events. To obtain press credentials, or to arrange press tours and research interviews, please contact Sharon Henry, 949.824.8236, sharonnh@calit2.uci.edu or Shelly Nazarenus, 949.824.9622, snaz@calit2.uci.edu.

Background information

Calit2 is a two-campus institute -- UC San Diego and UC Irvine -- that conducts multidisciplinary information technology research and development. It is one of four science and innovation institutes created by the state of California in December 2000 to fast-track UC research into the commercial arena.

The Calit2 Building on the Irvine campus opened in November 2004 and because much of the space is shared, open and reconfigurable, it accommodates working together, and building and testing prototype technologies in Calit2’s “living labs.”
