CALIT2, in partnership with UCI’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, announces the availability of undergraduate research stipends through SURF-IT, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships in Information Technology. Planning is underway for the program’s eighth consecutive summer.
SURF-IT offers undergraduate students 10 weeks of full-time, hands-on research under the mentorship of a faculty member.
Faculty are invited to submit project proposals by Monday, Feb. 27. Selected projects will be announced to students in early March, and student applications are due April 2.
Projects are welcome from all disciplines and schools, and should have a substantial IT component. Those focusing on energy, environment and health care are especially encouraged.
This year’s program kicks off June 18 and concludes August 24, at which time students will present their final project results.
The program will include seminars based on the faculty sponsors’ research as well as seminars on research and career issues. Attendance at SURF-IT seminars is mandatory for the students, and faculty attendance at these events is encouraged.
