CALIT2’s Cool Campus Challenge student team scored a first place finish in this year’s UC-wide, sustainability-focused contest.
The Cool Campus Challenge is an annual 4-week compition designed to educate and motivate the University of California campus community to take simple energy-saving, waste reducing and sustainability-focused actions to lower their carbon footprint and help the UC system reach carbon neutrality by 2025.
Students, faculty and staff earned points for their teams by completing activities aimed at decreasing a their carbon footprint. Energy-saving actions taken by CALIT2’s 43-person, student team saved a whopping 88,454 lbs of CO2 – more than of any another UCI student team, and enough to be recognized as a first place winner in the 2019 challenge.
