Danelle joined Calit2 in January 2026 as a pre- and post-award analyst. Prior to Calit2, she worked as a pre-award analyst in the School of Medicine. Danelle grew up in Irvine before moving to San Diego for her undergraduate studies at Point Loma Nazarene University, and later to New York, where she earned a J.D. from St. John’s University in Queens. She subsequently worked in various administrative roles across the non-profit, federal and private sectors. After returning to California in 2020, she joined the UCI Department of Medicine as a Project Policy Analyst and moved to the Department of Medicine’s Pre-Award Research Administration team in 2022, where she focused on the preparation and submission of proposals to the NIH, as well as other federal and state agencies, foundations and private industry.

Gisela joined Calit2 in February 2026 to support research development and industry relations on a part-time basis. Previously, she was involved with the School of Engineering in various roles. Gisela earned her B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley (1990), followed by an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara (1992), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA (1998). Prior to joining the University of California, Irvine, she held positions at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and at Standard MEMS, Inc. Since 2006, Dr. Lin has worked at the intersection of industry and academia, beginning with the DoD-funded Micro/Nano Fluidics program.

Submitting a proposal through Calit2 is an opportunity to tap into shared expertise, infrastructure and strategic support. Whether exploring early-stage ideas or preparing a full submission, Calit2 can assist with research development, proposal coordination and preparation, facilities and computing resources, cost sharing (when appropriate), industry engagement, and workforce development. Interested researchers are encouraged to submit a Google form for each proposal request which helps the Calit2 staff align support, streamline the process, and strengthen proposals for both near-term submission and long-term impact.

“Stay tuned for further announcements and opportunities,” said Calit2 Director Athina Markopoulou. “Research development is a priority for the institute.”
