Company: Summit Technology Lab
Project description: Develop an application using a modern UI framework that can take information from a database (e.g. text blurbs, images, videos and hierarchies thereof) and present it in a conducive visualization. We have a real client who will be involved in designing the visualization and getting the information to be presented. The hope is that the client will have a simple, easy, and intuitive interface to upload the information in a database from which the visualization will be generated automatically. The goal is that after the project is done, the updating visualization is self-sustainable. Clients will just go in and update the database through a form/UI which will create content to be added to the visualization automatically.
Skills: Experience in Java/C++/C#, Javascript, and modern UI framework like Angular, ReactJS.
Familiarity with web development frameworks, MySQL, RESTFul Services, JSON, Git, and Agile methodology
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in teams.
Aptitude to explore new technologies, to learn, and to overcome unique challenges.
Can-do attitude.

Company: Amberstone Biosciences
Project description: The engineering division at Amberstone Biosciences is developing a frontier droplet-based microfluidic platform to assist the discovering of next generation therapeutics. The team urgently requires a fast, robust, and efficient method for fabricating prototypes of microfluidic chips for research and development. A few potential methods and materials have been identified, but more detailed research, prototyping, troubleshooting, and validating are required. We expect the candidate can deliver a fast and low-cost batch fabrication method, a standard operating procedure, and detailed records during the development at the end of the training program.
Phase of Work:
Learn and understand current methods and limitation. Obtain hands-on experience of chip fabrication. (1st month).
Research and prepare for new methods. Start initial test from different methods/materials. (2nd month)
Fabricate microfluidic chips with new methods/materials and testing on the microfluidic platform developed by the engineering team. Optimizing the methods based on the feedback. (3rd month)
Continue optimizing the procedure and obtain comprehensive testing results. (4th month)
Finalize the method, the standard operating procedure, and the final report (5th month)
Skills:
(Ongoing) education in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline with strong interest in microfluidic-based single cell technologies. Hands-on experience in a laboratory-type environment is a plus. Microfluidic background is highly desired but not required.
Excellent ability to work with a strong focus on planned deliverables (e.g., timely fabrication of microfluidic chips, delivery of a CAD design).
Good communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
