CalPlug research on plug load control strategies has identified easy-to-implement methods to optimize energy savings in offices and households.

1. Empower devices with power management
The first step towards achieving energy efficiency is taking control of your devices’ power management and sleep settings. Computers, monitors, televisions, and other electronics are often left running needlessly, resulting in wasteful energy consumption. By configuring these devices to enter sleep mode when not in use or setting up automatic shutdown timers, you can significantly reduce unnecessary energy usage.

2. Unleash the potential of advanced power strips
Advanced power strips can automatically power down televisions, computers, and other electronics when they are not in use. By cutting off the phantom loads that result from devices staying plugged in even when not actively used, advanced power strips help eliminate the energy vampires lurking in homes and offices.

3. The rise of smart plugs
Smart plugs can provide unparalleled control over devices. With the convenience of smartphone apps or voice-activated smart speakers, users can easily turn off or schedule the operation of various appliances. Additionally, many smart plug models offer energy usage tracking features, empowering users to monitor consumption patterns and make more informed decisions about energy usage.
