The Data Engineering ThinkTank is a state-of-the-art, high-performance computer lab that provides access to distributed computing resources, collaboration tools, visualization software and a brand-new class of hardware designed expressly for accelerating UCI research, utilizing artificial intelligence and deep machine learning. In support of the Data Engineering ThinkTank and other groups on campus and within CALIT2, there are two 900-square-foot server rooms housing over 100 servers connected by 40 gigabits-per-second fiber, interconnecting to an Arista 7280R switch capable of a 100-gigabits-per-second connection. The Arista switch enables connection of the Data Engineering ThinkTank workstations to the FIONA Data Transfer Nodes by 10-gigabits-per-second direct-fiber links, and onward to the Pacific Research Platform which contains hundreds of GPUs and thousands of CPU cores.
The fourth-floor Data Engineering ThinkTank is where UCI and industry will collaborate on state-of-the-art machine-learning technology to create edge-computing methods for advanced manufacturing optimization.
