SURF-IT, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Information Technology, is now accepting applications from UCI undergraduate students who want to gain hands-on experience in IT-related research. Fifteen multidisciplinary summer research projects are available; the deadline for applications is April 6.
A collaboration between CALIT2 and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), SURF-IT provides a unique 10-week opportunity for UCI undergraduates. Student fellows will receive a stipend of $3,500.
Under the personal guidance of a UCI faculty mentor, students will gain first-hand experience and training in state-of-the-art facilities and techniques. A series of seminars will provide opportunities to build knowledge and enhance dialogue about telecommunications and information technology systems and applications. At the conclusion of the program, students will share their research accomplishments by presenting their findings at the SURF-IT Poster Session and Closing Reception.
The program is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills that will propel them into graduate studies or careers in various multidisciplinary fields of telecommunications and information technology.
The research projects cover a wide range of topics, including for example, tracking stem cells, designing better software-defined radio, and improving modes of human-computer interaction.
