May 10, 2011 –
CALIT2 and UC Irvine’s Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility (INRF) are seeking proposals for a new Collaboration Initiation Grant. The funding will support interdisciplinary research that utilizes CALIT2/BiON and INRF facility resources, with the goal of generating preliminary data that can be used to submit a full proposal to a granting agency.
Five projects will each receive seed funding of $10,000 as well as 40 hours of INRF technical staff time.
Applicants must be full-time UCI faculty or researchers, and each funded project must produce a prototype and/or test results for incorporation into a proposal submission to a granting agency within 12 months.
Proposals will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee appointed by the director of CALIT2 and INRF, and will be selected based on the following criteria:
• Likelihood of funding from premier agencies outside of the University of California
• Likelihood to result in a long-term multidisciplinary collaboration
• Innovation, novelty and scientific value of proposed research
• Ability to impact both the research field and society
• Preference will be given to new engagements
Proposals should not exceed five pages, including budget. For a complete list of proposal criteria, click here.
Proposals are due by May 31, 2011, and awards will be announced by June 20, 2011. Proposals should be submitted electronically in PDF form to Alana Valencia at avalenc@uci.edu.
