On May 31, students completing CALIT2’s 2023 MADO (Make a Difference Opportunity) program, shared presentations that chronicled their findings and experiences while working with local companies during the programs five-month, inaugural session.
The MADO program, launched in late 2022, is generously supported by the University of California, Office of the President. It provides a unique opportunity for full-time undergraduate and graduate UCI students to gain first-hand experience by matching them with short-term (five month) projects at local businesses.
The goals of this program are:
- To make a difference for the student and business.
- In turn, to give the student an opportunity to make a difference and transition to the job market.
- To allow local businesses to participate in workforce development.
- To create opportunities/projects that have some societal impact.
- As a minority-serving institution, the MADO program aims to support UCI’s goals and objectives of diversity, equity and inclusion.
In January, six students were selected to work with five companies on a variety of projects. Companies involved in the recent session included smilefish, Amberstone, Octane, Carbon Technology Inc. and Haystack.
