The California Plug Load Research Center (CalPlug) hosted its semiannual workshop, “Solutions for PPLs to Address Climate Concerns,” Thursday, Nov. 10 at CALIT2. The workshop focused on finding executable solutions to balance energy consumption of electrical devices with climate concerns.

CalPlug’s primary objective is to research and develop effective solutions for energy-conscious plug and process flow.

“Energy efficiency solutions need to be easy to use, cost effective, educational, motivational and appeal to the full range of real users, including disadvantaged communities, small businesses and other hard-to-reach customers,” says G.P. Li, director of CalPlug and CALIT2 UCI.

The CalPlug workshop series was launched in 2011 with the goal to maximize communication of the latest research findings and development, and to address challenges in plug load efficiency for both residential and commercial buildings. The events bring together utilities, manufacturers, advocacy groups, research institutions and energy policymakers.

“We’re continuing our work to advance energy efficiency and management solutions for process and plug load by promoting best practices and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration between academia, utility, government agency and community,” Li adds.
